Inscrutable Americans

25 September 2006 118 views No Comment

Day before evening, I was busy at home shuttling between a few television channels. During my journey, whilst halting at National Geography, there was a Programme on extreme engineering covering the construction of world’s longest suspension bridges in Japan – Akashi-Kaikyo AKA Pearl Bridge.

It was great to watch the effort put in by Japanese engineers on constructing the bridge, even more interesting was their importance to details and precision. I had a good time watching the program untill it reached a stage where the host of the show talked about how much part of the project had cost, close to $5 Bn – I would assume anyone reading this post would understand what that figure means. And, surely believe the audience of Nat Geo ability to understand the same.

The host had said, the amount it had cost is equivalent to buying New York Yankees 5 times – Damn!

I have nothing against the world of sports, I definetely repsect Sports and Sportsmen. But can’t come to terms with comparing everything under the sun and that too with American list of items all the time.

Whilst watching the programme, I was, for a moment trying to figure if the host was trying to showcase his sense of humor or really trying to present the magnitude of $Bn. Either ways, it sucks! I do not know why everything

A) Has to compared
B) Has to be compared in American scale

[I had published an entry similar to this by book authors a few months ago, please click here to view]

I seriously think these programme makers and book authors have to wake up and realize the world map does not only have Americas in it. And, swear to kill the Hamburgers and Hotdogs boredom.
